Can your Amazon.com privileges get revoked?

Gear for an Antarctic expedition is definitely a specialty area.  It needs to be very warm, and durable, but very light.  Plus there are the items needed to help control the tendency for moisture to instantly freeze at 40 below.  One item is the wolverine fur ruff on your parka hood – it resists your breath icing up.  Another is the heat exchanger face mask that warms the air before it hits your lungs, and directs your breathing away from your face – David calls it the “Darth Vader mask”.

I had a lot of the necessary items from prior mountaineering expeditions and a trip to the North Pole a few years ago, but in the end, still ordered stuff from Alaska, Canada, the U.K. and Norway.  Amazon was my go-to for more mundane items like a new thermos and insulated mug.  The parade of boxes arriving at the house had my kids calling for my Amazon privileges to be cancelled.  We are only allowed to bring 40 pounds of personal gear (plus all of our clothing) on the plane to Antarctica, so I may still need to do a little winnowing…
