Our Expedition Logo

What the heck is going on here?

Facing a major birthday milestone, I was looking for some way to prove that “I’m not (quite) dead yet.”  I also needed a motivator to get in better shape, since working a professor’s hours had left me much more marshmallow shaped than in younger days.  Plus, I have always wanted to get to the South Pole (Antarctica is the only continent I haven’t yet visited for work or on vacation), but I also wanted to ‘earn’ that accomplishment.  So when a chance to ski to the pole came up, I asked my friend David if he wanted to join the madness (since he is the only other person I know that might be crazy enough to enjoy the idea of skiing and camping for several days, at 40 degrees below zero, over the top of a two mile thick glacier, located just 89 degrees South of the equator…).  It turns out we are both just that crazy, and so C.O.L.D. F.A.R.T. (Combined Overland Last Degree Fox And Rothberg Trek) was born.
