Antarctic Sled Drag Training - Malibu Style
I got in a bit of last minute training over the last few days, including a final tire drag. I have concluded at this point that dragging tires on tarmac NEVER gets easier (except when it's raining), but you can get faster. My last 'drag' was twice as long and four times as far as one last month. I am hopeful that snow conditions will be good, and actually dragging the sled will be a lot easier...
I also did a local hike yesterday - only about 10 miles and 3,500' because I needed to get to play performances by my two youngest. There were some delays due to more landslides from recent rains: I literally sat down - muddy hiking boots, sweaty shirt, and all, a few seconds before the lights went down. Then I worked until three am, before catching a few hours of sleep.
Now at LAX, waiting to board. The first 23 hours of travel are LAX - Lima - Santiago - Puerto Montt - Punta Arenas. Then some much needed sleep before we do a gear check and expedition briefing. David has an even more tortuous flight itinerary from the U.S. East Coast...
